Nicola Jentzsch

Head of Innovation, Deutsche Bundesbank
Dr. Nicola Jentzsch is Head of Innovation of Deutsche Bundesbank, the Central Bank of Germany. In November 2023, she was appointed to lead the digital innovation unit InnoWerk. Before her appointment, she held different positions in Germany’s government institutions: she served as the first Chief Data Scientist of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and worked at the Federal Chancellory on the Federal Data Strategy.
Dr. Jentzsch is an economist with more than 25 years of research in data economy topics specialized in mechanism design & intermediation, competition strategies and consumer behaviour in financial markets. She holds a doctorate in Economics from the Freie Universität Berlin and was a Research Fellow at Yale University and Georgetown University. In the past, she published her research in international double-blind peer-reviewed journals and obtained a Google Research Award. Dr. Jentzsch has also served as adviser to the European Commission, World Bank, European Investment Bank, CARICOM, CGAP and GIZ.
