Evelyn Grass

Head of the Artificial Intelligence Division, German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy

Evelyn Grass is Head of Division VIA2 (Artificial Intelligence) in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in Germany. Within the German Federal Government, her division is responsible for several key topics regarding AI policy, inter alia Germany's AI Strategy as well as Germany’s contribution to international AI politics and international AI governance discussions (OECD AIGO, GPAI, AI Action Summit). Together with the Federal Ministry of Justice, her division is in the lead for the EU AI Act and its implementation on national and European level.

Evelyn studied law at Passau and Geneva University. She began her professional career as a lawyer for antitrust law at Allen & Overy LLP (2011 to 2014). From 2014 to 2016, she served as an Advisor in the State Government Schleswig-Holstein mainly focusing on digital policy issues. In 2016, she joined the BMWK, where she worked in different policy areas as well as in the Minister‘s Office, before she was appointed Head of Division VIA2 in early 2023. Since January 2024, she acts as Vice Chair of the OECD Working Party Artificial Intelligence Governance (OECD AIGO).
