Quantum computing will bring ‘cybersecurity Armageddon’
IBM’s GM of Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Ana Paula Assis, warns that quantum computing will lead to a “cybersecurity Armageddon” by the end of the decade, catching governments and businesses unprepared.
Quantum computers, with their parallel processing power, will render existing encryption systems obsolete. While some governments are taking action, businesses lack a roadmap to use AI and quantum together. SandboxAQ CEO Jack Hidary predicts a “trainwreck,” estimating banks will need 8-10 years to transition to post-quantum protocols, while scalable quantum computers will emerge by 2029 or 2030.
China is actively investing in quantum computing, and the development is outpacing projections.
