Senator Jean Pierre Raffarin
Former Prime Minister of France; Honorary Member of Parliament ; Chairman, Fondation Prospective et Innovation
Jean-Pierre Raffarin was born in 1948 in Poitiers. Graduated from the Ecole supérieure de commerce in Paris. He was a senior lecturer at the Institut d’études politiques in Paris.
Since 2007, he his a lecturer professor at ESCP Europe and from 2010 at the ENAP in Québec.
Responsibilities at the national level
From 1988, he is going to spend 18 years at the head of the regional executive of Poitou-Charentes. He will also be European Member of Parliament, Quaestor, President of the Association of the Regions of France.
From 1995 to 1997 he was appointed Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Commerce and Craft
Appointed Prime Minister by Jacques Chirac from May 2002 to may 2005, he is elected Senator of Vienne from 1995, and Vice-president of the Senate from March, 2011.
He is appointed President of the National Council of the UMP (Union for a Popular Movement) in 2013.
Member of the board of the Forum of BOAO ( Asia) from 2009 to 2012, he is the President of the Republic’s personal representative for Francophony, President of the Fondation pour la Prospective et l’Innovation (Foundation for Innovation and Future Technologies); President of the annual France-China Committee Forum; Several presidential missions, in particular that relative to the economic relations with Algeria
